Education Minister Yu Eun-hye said on the 7th, “The number of coronavirus infections (Corona 19) confirmed in the school age of 13-18 for the last three weeks is on the rise,” and asked for thorough school quarantine.

Minister Yoo said this while presided over an emergency video conference on school quarantine with Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Chung Eun-kyung, an infectious disease expert at the government’s Sejong Government Complex.

According to the Ministry of Education, the school’s attendance classes this year have been greatly expanded, and the average school attendance rate of students nationwide reaches 73%. 2,250 schools, 98.7% of the nationwide elementary, middle, and high schools, are operating normally.

He said, “I was very concerned that the incidence of confirmed cases would increase rapidly after the start of school as the number of students in school was greatly expanded, and the rate of student confirmed cases in March is low compared to the rate of infection in the entire population,” he said.

However, he said, “There is a growing concern as the number of confirmed cases across the country has been increasing in recent years.”

With the vaccination of faculty members starting with special and health teachers starting on the 8th, Minister Yoo said that with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, consultations to advance the vaccination plans of the remaining teachers were continuing.

He explained, “The desired rate of vaccination of teachers in the first and second grades, kindergartens, and caring teachers is over 80%, and the number of applicants for health and specialty teachers is increasing.”

Minister Yoo said, “At the crossroads of the 4th recurrent pandemic, the Ministry of Education will cooperate closely with the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention and the Office of Education to further strengthen school quarantine and supplement the necessary matters in order to overcome this crisis well.”
