Yu Eun-hye, the Vice Prime Minister of Social Affairs and the Minister of Education, announced that it will be vaccinated against the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) for all senior high school students and teachers in charge before the college entrance exam (SAT).

Deputy Prime Minister Yu, who attended the National Assembly’s Board of Education on the 16th, said, “In order to stably take the SAT, it is necessary for the senior high school or the staff in charge to complete the vaccination in a timely manner.” Currently, the government plans to give priority vaccinations to only health teachers, special school teachers, kindergartens and daycare centers, and teachers in the first and second grades of elementary school.

Deputy Prime Minister Yoo said that if high school 3 vaccination is done, the timing will be around July-August. He said, “We will continue to discuss ways to advance the rank of vaccinations, such as adjusting the timing of vaccinations twice during vacation so as not to interfere with schooling,” he said.

The expansion of vaccination targets is expected to be decided in consideration of the supply and demand of vaccines. According to the vaccination plan released by the government in January, the targets for vaccination in the second quarter are expected to be at least 10 million people, including the elderly over 65 years of age, health care workers, teachers, and flight attendants. Pfizer, Modena, Janssen, and NovaVax vaccines are expected to be available in the second quarter, but specific quantities have not been confirmed.

Deputy Prime Minister Yoo apologized for the continuing errors in the Learning Management System (LMS)’EBS Online Class’ right after the start of school. Since the beginning of this month, school sites are complaining of inconveniences such as interruption of access to EBS online classes or not being able to record learning progress.

Deputy Prime Minister Yoo said, “We have to provide the service completely without discomfort at the start of the new semester in March, but I feel a great responsibility for failing to do so.” He added, “We are making up for errors that occurred during the addition of class convenience functions for more than 3 weeks,” he said. “We plan to gradually stabilize by communicating with the site by the end of March.”

It also revealed a plan to increase the number of days to attend schools in the metropolitan area, which is less than that of the non-metropolitan area. According to Rep. Jun-young Bae, the average school day for elementary schools in Jeonnam area last year was 59 days, while the average day for elementary schools in Seoul was only 11.6 days. Deputy Prime Minister Yoo said, “We are discussing with the Office of Education a flexible way to attend school so that if possible, we can expand school attendance classes (in the metropolitan area).”
