[이데일리 스타in 박미애 기자] “I didn’t even know in my dream that three Asian women would be nominated for an Oscar.”

Yoon Yeo-jeong, the first Korean actor to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, said in an interview with The New York Times.

The New York Times released a video interview with Yoon Yeo-jung who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the movie’Minari’ on the 2nd (one hour).

Yoon Yeo-jung said, “‘Marina-ri’ gave a lot of gifts,” but also expressed the burden of over-reporting her possibility of winning in Korea. “The media seem to see me as a soccer player or national team. That burden makes me difficult. So I keep talking to director Bong Joon-ho. It’s all because of you.” Director Bong Joon-ho’s film’Parasite’ was the first non-English film to win an Academy Award last year, drawing attention to Korean films and Korean filmmakers.

Yoon Yeo-jung also mentioned the grievances he suffered while working vigorously in the 1970s and then moving to Florida, USA, living for nearly 10 years, divorce, and then returning to Korea to act.

Yoon Yeo-jung said, “At that time, people said that they were divorced and should not appear on TV, but now they like me very much,” he said. “It’s strange, but that’s human again.” He also said, “Because of my small role, people hated it, so I thought about quitting or returning to America, but I’m still alive and I’m finally enjoying acting.”

‘Minari’ was nominated for Best Actress, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Actor, Screenplay and Music Awards at the 93rd Academy Awards. Stephen Yeon, who was awarded the Best Actor Award, was the first Asian-American to attract attention.

The Academy Awards Ceremony will be held on the 25th.
