Yonsei University deliberates on plagiarism of Seol Min-seok…

The thesis of Seol Min-seok, a famous Korean history lecturer who has been engulfed in plagiarism controversy, is being reviewed.

According to Yonhap News reports, on the 30th, Yonsei University established a graduate committee to consider whether to cancel the degree conferment for Seol Min-seok.

Seol Min-seok graduated from Yonsei University Graduate School of Education Department of History Education in 2010. The master’s thesis is’a study on the ideological controversy in the description of textbooks in Korean modern and contemporary history’.

If the thesis is plagiarism, then Seol Min-seok’s master’s degree may be cancelled. If the degree is cancelled, discussions will likely take place over expulsion and expulsion. Re-entry is not possible upon expulsion.

According to Yonsei University’s Graduate School of Education’s regulations,’the president may cancel the conferment of the degree after deliberation by the Graduate School Committee of the University’ if a person who has received a degree is obtained in an illegal manner.

An official from Yonsei University said through Yonhap News, “Because I have already admitted plagiarism to the thesis, the committee will investigate and review it to decide whether to cancel Seol’s master’s degree.”

Previously, the media dispatch said that the plagiarism rate of 52% came out as a result of analyzing Seol Min-seok’s thesis in’Copy Killer’, a thesis plagiarism verification site.

Meanwhile, Seol Min-suk said on his SNS on the 29th, “I apologize for causing inconvenience and concern to many people due to the plagiarism of the master’s thesis.”

In addition, he expressed his intention to get off on all the broadcasts that were appearing, saying, “It is a terrible feeling because it did not meet the excessive expectations and trust you sent me.”
