The first breakthrough of 2 million involuntary unemployment… Concentration of impact on the vulnerable

Last year, the number of involuntary unemployed workers surpassed 2 million for the first time in the aftermath of Corona 19, which engulfed the Korean workplace, reaching an all-time high.
The employment shock brought about by the Corona was concentrated on vulnerable groups such as non-regular workers.

Kim Mo in her 30s, who has been in the music industry for more than 10 years.
The conflict with the company began as music performances were completely stopped due to Corona 19.
“At the time, it seems that it was difficult for the company to handle the number of employees based on the income, so there was an unpleasant disturbance between the employees and the representative…”
I tried to hold on to the end, but as the company changed the business type, I was finally notified of advisory resignation at the end of last year.
“The work I was doing was no longer done at the company, and the company suggested remarkably bad conditions if I wanted to continue working…”
Like Kim, there were 2196,000 people who involuntarily quit working last year.
This is a 48.9% increase from the previous year, the highest since 2000 when the unemployment statistics standard changed.
The more vulnerable, the greater the impact.
According to the results of a civic group survey, last year, 4 out of 10 non-regular workers answered that they experienced unemployment.
It is 9 times the level of regular workers.
In particular, it was revealed that nearly 80% of non-regular workers in the process of unemployment did not receive unemployment benefits properly.
“(For non-regular workers), the feeling of anxiety and depression that comes from lowering job security is very high. Because there is not a system to receive social protection when facing a situation such as dismissal or termination of contract, it doubles the feeling of anxiety and depression. …”
As the pace of employment recovery is slow in the new year, it is pointed out that the government’s employment and welfare policy standards need to be relaxed and additional support measures are needed, especially for the vulnerable.
