The corona cold wave that hit the job market continued last month.

The decline was less than in January, but the number of employed has declined by nearly 500,000, and it has already been a decrease for 12 months.

The impact the face-to-face service industry received was still great.

The decline in the number of employed people continued last month as well, which began with the corona crisis.

As the number of employed workers in February decreased by 473,000 from a year ago, the employment shock from Coronavirus continued for a year.

This is the longest consecutive decline that has been unprecedented since the number of employed decreased 16 months from January 1998, just after the financial crisis.

Although the decline was better than January, which was around 1 million people, it was the largest since 1999 in February alone.

90% of the decrease in the number of employed came from wholesale, retail and lodging and restaurant businesses.

The contraction of the face-to-face service industry was reflected in the employment situation.

“As the corona is prolonged, it is approaching an almost unbearable stage. The problem will become more serious in the future…”

By age group, the number of employed fell by all age groups, except for those aged 60 or older, an increase of 212,000 people, and the decline was the largest at 238,000 people in their 30s.

“In February, as work for the elderly job program started in earnest, the number of employed in the health and welfare industry turned to an increase, and the number of employed persons in the public administration expanded, and the number of employed persons aged 60 and over increased.”

The employment trend survey in February was conducted after the 15th, when the social distancing stage was lowered, and the figures improved compared to January due to the start of the government’s fiscal job business. “The job situation is improving, such as an increase in the number of months in a row,” and expected to improve further thanks to vaccinations and the like in March.
