Regarding the suspicion that LH employees of Korea Land and Housing Corporation purchased 10 billion won of land before the designation of Gwangmyeong Siheung New City, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Byeon Chang-heum makes a speech.
Let’s hear it yourself.
[변창흠 / 국토교통부 장관]
This is Chang-Hum Byun, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
On February 24, the government announced that it would supply 70,000 units in Gwangmyeong and Siheung new cities in Gyeonggi-do for the rapid stabilization of the housing market.
However, after the announcement of the new cities of Gwangmyeong and Siheung, suspicion was raised by the employees of Korea Land and Housing Corporation, an organization that proposes to designate the district, and the purchase of land by the employees was partially confirmed.
First of all, based on the reliability and transparency of the policy, we deeply understand our responsibility as the head of the agency responsible for the relevant affairs and as the head of the agency in charge of the fact that unfavorable things have occurred in the agency that has to execute the public development project. I apologize.
Under the direction of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has initiated a thorough investigation into allegations of speculation raised in the 3rd new town targeting employees of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, public institutions and local governments related to housing site work.
We plan to check the status of land ownership and transactions by including not only the officials in charge, but also the spouse and direct survivors of the survey.
If the investigation reveals that it is illegal, we will take strict measures in accordance with laws and regulations such as complaints, accusations, and disciplinary measures.
In addition, to prevent this from happening again, we will devise and institutionalize thorough measures to prevent recurrence.
We will strictly limit real estate transactions that are not for the purpose of residence of the officials in charge, and make it mandatory to report real estate transactions.
Even if you are not in charge of business, we will devise undisclosed important information and take measures to punish those who use it for land transactions.
In order to restore the trust of the people, we will conduct a thorough investigation and announce the results and countermeasures to prevent recurrence as soon as possible.
Lastly, taking advantage of this incident, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and employees of related public institutions will continue to promote public housing projects for the stability of the people’s housing with a more strict attitude.
Thank you.
