[그래픽 뉴스] The fluctuating delivery app market

A year ago, a controversy over monopoly arose when German Delivery Hero, which operates Yogiyo, the second largest delivery app market in Korea, announced that it would take over the nation of Delivery, the No. 1 delivery app company.

However, after more than a year’s review by the Fair Trade Commission, the merger was canceled.

Today’s graphic news,

These days, you use a lot of delivery apps when ordering food.

It’s been a long time since it’s been a must because you can easily order without having to look for each restaurant phone number and choose a restaurant with good customer reviews.

Delivery apps with a low probability of failure are now a dinosaur in the food service market.

Online and mobile food delivery service transactions have nearly doubled annually, especially this year, thanks to the coronavirus outbreak.

The delivery apps that consumers mainly use were Korea’s No. 1 company, the nation of delivery, and the No. 2 company Yogiyo.

However, the parent company of Delivery Box Foodfly, which takes 3rd and 4th place, is a German delivery hero like Yogiyo.

In the end, it is said that the share of the two companies, the nation of delivery and Yogiyo, which are the first and second place, occupy more than 99% of the delivery app market.

Under these circumstances, delivery heroes have raised concerns about market monopoly as they announced they would take over the people of delivery.

And yesterday, the Fair Trade Commission granted conditional approval that German Delivery Hero must sell its subsidiary Yogiyo within six months to take over the People of Delivery.

It is judged that it is difficult to achieve fair competition in the market when Yogiyo and the nation of delivery, which are the No. 1 and 2nd largest domestic delivery app market companies, combine.

The FTC ordered that Yogiyo members and couriers remain as they are until the sale is over.

In the end, Delivery Hero accepted the FTC decision and gave up’Yogiyo’ and chose’Delivery Nation’, the number one delivery app company.

Accordingly, attention is drawn to who will become Yogiyo’s new owner.

In the market, large domestic distribution companies and IT companies are being discussed as candidates for acquisition.

Criticism is confronting this decision as a decision to regress the domestic startup ecosystem along with the evaluation that it has prevented the harm of monopoly both inside and outside the industry.

It’s been graphic news so far.
