Kona electric vehicle 2nd recall Ghana… Conflict over cost issues

After a fire in the Kona electric vehicle being charged followed, Hyundai decided to change the battery.
This is because there was another fire in the vehicle that was recalled last year.
However, since the cause of the fire is not clear, responsibility for the issue of cost burden continues.

The Kona electric car started to catch fire in July 2019.
So far, there have been 11 fires in Korea, and 4 fires abroad.
In the end, Hyundai Motor recalled the Kona electric car in October last year, but the vehicle that was recalled last month caught fire again.
“It’s a fire incident, so I can’t feel uneasy. Because of the government subsidy, I have to use it for two years, so we can’t stop driving in our business lane…”
In the end, Hyundai Motor decided to replace all the batteries of Kona electric vehicles.
As the Korea Automobile Research Institute is investigating the cause of fire for all Kona electric vehicles sold in Korea, there is a high possibility that about 30,000 units sold in Korea will be recalled.
The question is who will pay for the recall, which seems to cost about 1 trillion won.
The battery cells used in Kona electric vehicles are made by LG Energy Solutions, and the battery pack that can store these battery cells is made by Hyundai.
In a situation where the cause of the fire is unclear, Hyundai claims that a defective battery cell is the cause of the fire, but LG is in a position that it has not reached a conclusion.
“If both sides say that the same fire occurred under the same conditions, they are willing to die before the lawsuit…”
The investigation of the cause of the fire can affect the international reliability of both companies’ products, so the nerve war is sharp, but Kona drivers who have to wait for the battery replacement in the meantime are inevitably anxious.
