Softbank Chairman Son Jeong-eui, who has led the Japanese IT industry as the third generation Korean-Japanese, is stepping back from the front line of management.
According to foreign media, on April 1, Softbank’s vice president Junichi Miyakawa will be promoted to president and chief executive officer, and Ken Miyauchi will be inaugurated as president of the group.
Son Jung-eui resigned from the chairman and assumed the position of’Founder Director’.
However, it is said that Chairman Son will continue to be in charge of cooperation with investment companies and the strategy of the group as a whole.
It has been 40 years since Chairman Sohn, who founded Softbank in 1981, resigned from the forefront of management.
Chairman Sohn, who went to Japan at the age of 14 and became self-made, has led the Japanese IT industry by growing SoftBank into a global company.
He also founded the Vision Fund and invested enormous amounts of money in large IT companies and promising startups, which is also called the’big hand’ of the stock market.
Starting from this greeting, observations are made that SoftBank, which has been led by Chairman Sohn so far, is starting to change generations in earnest.
In a situation where earnings deterioration in the mobile phone sector, which is SoftBank’s flagship business, is expected to deteriorate, it is also of interest that Miyakawa’s new president will expand its business to 5G mobile communications and autonomous vehicles.
