Xiaomi opposes the blacklist designation and filed a lawsuit against the US government. Earlier this year, the US government classified Xiaomi as a Chinese communist company and added it to the blacklist.

“Xiaomi does not follow the possession or control of the Chinese government or the military, has no connection, and does not own or control any entity related to the Chinese defense industry,” said Xiaomi. He also stressed that three out of the 10 most common shares of Xiaomi are US institutional investors.
At the end of the Trump administration, Xiaomi was blacklisted by Chinese military companies. This is different from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s list of restricted companies that block technology exports to those companies. It is judged to be a company owned or controlled by the Chinese Communist Army, and the U.S. Department of Defense has prepared such a list in accordance with law since 1999. To date, 35 companies, including China Ocean Petroleum (CNOOC), a major Chinese oil company, and SMIC, the largest semiconductor company in China, have been on the list.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning US investment in companies that were blacklisted by Chinese military companies in November. As a result, Xiaomi will be subject to an investment ban, forced to dispose of its stakes by US investors by November 11 this year.
In response, Xiaomi said, “The company has been operating legally and has complied with the laws and regulations of the region in which it operates,” and said, “I repeatedly emphasize that the company provides services and products for private use or commercial use.”
