Xiaomi develops remote smartphone charger

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is developing a long-distance wireless charging technology that charges smartphones within a few meters.

IT media TechCrunch reported on the 29th (local time), “Xiaomi introduced a new long-distance wireless charging technology through the official YouTube” and “The technology was named’Mi Air Charge’.”

According to the media, the US Air Charge locates a smartphone within a few meters and emits millimeter-level wavelengths that charge the device through an antenna. The received wavelength is converted into electric power to charge a compatible smartphone. The maximum power developed so far is 5W.

Xiaomi has developed its own phase interference antenna for the US Air Charge and plans to install it on its smartphones. In addition to smartphones, it is known to be developed to interact with other wearable devices such as smart watches.

Xiaomi clarified that it is a technology still under development, saying, “There is no application of the US Air Charge technology to Xiaomi products this year.”
