Chinese President Xi Jinping sent an oral letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to convey his intention to develop relations between North Korea and China. This is the first message to North Korea after the high-level US-China talks ended in a harsh atmosphere, so attention is focused.

According to the Xinhua News Agency on the 22nd, the head of the Chinese Communist Party’s External Liaison Department (Central Liaison Department) head of the Chinese Communist Party interviewed Li Ryong-nam, the new North Korean ambassador to China, and delivered an oral letter of President Xi.

President Xi said, “We want to work hand in hand with our North Korean comrades under a new situation,” and “I want to keep, solidify, and develop relations between North Korea and China.” He said, “I want to make the people of both countries happier while the socialist projects of both countries are constantly achieving new results.”

“The current situation changes in 100 years and the century-old new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) have overlapped,” Xi said. “The international and regional situation is changing seriously.” Along with this, Xi emphasized, “China, together with North Korea and related parties, wants to maintain the political resolution of the Korean peninsula, keep peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and make new active contributions to the peace and stability of the region and development and prosperity.”

The letter was delivered while the US-China publicly clashed at a high-level meeting held in Anchorage, Alaska, USA on the 18th-19th (local time), and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was visiting China.
