CNN, Chinese investigation grounds, “500,000 confirmed cases in Wuhan”

According to an analysis, the number of corona19 infections in Wuhan, China, which is pointed as the origin of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), will be 10 times higher than official statistics. Although it is a media report, it is in line with the position of the US administration, which has consistently insisted on “concealing Wuhan,” and a fierce opposition from the Chinese side is expected.
CNN broadcast on the 29th (local time) reported that it came to this conclusion by analyzing the research results of the China Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC). Earlier, the CDC of China said that as a result of conducting a corona19 serological epidemiologic study on Wuhan residents, 4.43% of the residents had corona19 antibodies. Antibodies are usually formed in the body after suffering a viral infectious disease. Having antibodies means that you have had the disease. Based on this, CNN saw that the number of corona19 infected people could reach 500,000, given that Wuhan’s population is 11 million. This is 10 times more than the number of corona19 confirmed in Wuhan (5,354 people) officially announced by Chinese health authorities.
China’s CDC survey was conducted on 34,000 people in other cities in Hubei Province, to which Wuhan belongs, and outside of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong Province. In other cities in Hubei Province, the antibody retention rate was 0.44%, and in other regions, only two of the 12,000 samples were identified. Chinese health officials interpreted this as “an indicator of the fact that the corona 19 infection rate in China is low,” and praised “the authorities have effectively prevented the spread of Corona 19 on a much larger scale.”
However, the broadcast raised doubts about the transparency of the Chinese government by referring to the Hubei Provincial Disease Control and Prevention Center document reported by an anonymous whistleblower last month. It means that the information collected internally by the authorities is not disclosed as it is and only optimistic content is delivered. Yan Zhong Huang, a senior researcher in charge of global health at the American Foreign Relations Association (CFR), suggested the possibility of concealing, saying, “At the time of the outbreak of Corona 19 in Wuhan, asymptomatic infections were not included in the number of confirmed cases.
