Three department stores, including Lotte, Shinsegae, and Hyundai, are preparing to raise social distance in three stages.

According to the distribution industry on the 23rd, the three department store companies recently sent an official letter to their partner companies to discuss their intention to participate in online channels.

If the government raises the quarantine guidelines to the third stage of social distancing, department stores, which are large distribution facilities of 300m2 or more, are prohibited from operating. As all three department stores have online sales channels, the plan is to minimize the shock caused by the’shutdown’ by inducing the quantity of suppliers wishing to participate online to the group’s online shopping channels.

Lotte Department Store delivered in an official letter, “Please ask the person in charge for partners and brands that wish to operate online.”

Shinsegae Department Store also announced that it would be impossible to operate department store stores when the third step of social distancing from partners was implemented, and announced that “Partners wishing to operate online as sales are expected to respond to their intention to participate.” Hyundai Department Store also announced, “The online mall’The Hyundai.com’ and’Hyundai H Mall’ can be operated normally even with the three-level upgrade, so suppliers who wish to participate in online operation should respond to their intention to participate.”

However, as it has not yet been decided whether or not to upgrade to the third stage, further discussion will be needed for details on how to enter the online channel of suppliers. The delivery system needs to be determined in detail because the logistics warehouse is operated by each partner company, and additional discussions should be made on whether to conduct online promotions.

A department store industry official said, “We will adjust the details after grasping the opinions of the suppliers and seeing the government’s policy. However, if the store becomes unavailable due to the three-level upgrade, the online platform will be We expect it to help maintain stability.”

Meanwhile, the government is planning to decide on the weekend whether to extend or upgrade the current’social distancing’ phase, which ends on the 28th, after reviewing the trend of the outbreak of new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in Korea this week.
