According to an analysis, the life expectancy of Italy, the world’s second longevity country after Japan, has been shortened by nearly a year in the aftermath of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

In a report released on the 10th (local time), the Italian National Statistical Office (ISTAT) revealed that last year’s life expectancy was 82.3 years, down 0.9 years from the previous year.

This is the largest decline in recent decades, and based on World Bank statistics, it has retreated to the level in 2012 (82.2 years old), eight years ago.

Life expectancy refers to the average life expectancy of a newborn baby in the future.

The report pointed out that the life expectancy of the Corona 19 crisis has greatly reversed, and it will take a considerable amount of time to make up for it.

By region, the decrease in the northern region, where the virus hit the most, was remarkable. In particular, the province of Lombardy, considered the epicenter of the virus outbreak in Italy, plunged from 83.7 years old in 2019 to 81.2 years last year.

Italy is one of the Western countries with the greatest casualties from Corona 19.

According to ISTAT, the total number of deaths in Italy last year was 746,000, which is 15% higher than the average of the five years from 2015 to 2019.

Considering only the figures from March to December last year when the Corona 19 incident took off in earnest, it was found that it exceeded the average of the past five years by 21% (108,178 people).

As of this day, the cumulative number of corona 19 confirmed cases in Italy was 31,23,368, and the number of deaths was 10,811. The number of deaths is the sixth in the world after the United States, Brazil, Mexico, India, and the United Kingdom.
