The film’Buttercup’, which was praised by critics, was nominated for the Foreign Language Film Awards for’Golden Globe’, one of the two major American film awards.
The title of this film is Korean, the lead role is a Korean actor, the director is Lee Isaac-Jung (Korean name Jeong Isak), and a Korean-American.
According to the Hollywood Foreign Journalists Association (HFPA) regulations that host the Golden Globe, if more than 50% of conversations are not English, they are classified as foreign language films.

The film’s director, Lulu Wang (Chinese-American), tweeted about this.
“I’ve never seen a movie more American than this year. It’s a story of an immigrant family chasing the American dream in the United States. This old-fashioned standard that characterizes English as being American must change.”
Along with an article stating that Asian actor Shimuryu-do, who is appearing in the sitcom’Kim’s Convenience Store’, has been classified as a foreign language film, he posted a post titled “Minari filmed in the United States, appeared in the United States, directed by an American, and produced by an American company.
Daniel v. Kim, a Korean actor, criticized him as saying, “The US is my home country, but I am telling you to return to your country.”

Produced by Brad Pitt’s production company A24, is a film directed by Korean-American director Chung based on an autobiographical story.
Korean-American Stephen Yeon is the general producer and lead, and Yoon Yeo-jung and Han Ye-ri have also been named in the lead role.

Earlier this year, Director Bong Joon-ho won the Foreign Language Film Award at Golden Globe.
At the time, he was on the podium and expressed his feelings like this.
“I think we speak only one language. That language is a movie.”
He said that if you cross the 1-inch barrier of’subtitles’, you can enjoy much more movies.
Shortly thereafter, the first Korean film to dominate this academy declared that the 1-inch barrier had collapsed.

If’Minari’ won the Academy Award, wouldn’t the Korean media be excited about the success of Korean movies?
The controversies in the United States over the world will be the process of approaching the’day when everything becomes natural’ as directed by Director Bong Joon-ho.
