(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Choi Song-ah = Sang-wook Oh (25, Seongnam City Hall), the world’s No. 1 fencing male sabre, won the championship in an international competition in one year.

On the 13th (local time), Sangwook Oh reached the top in the men’s solo match at the FIE Saber World Cup held in Budapest, Hungary.

This is the first year of international competition since he won the bronze medal in the Luxembourg World Cup solo exhibition in March last year.

After the event, the international competition was stopped due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), and the Tokyo Olympics were postponed.

His individual championship in international competitions was about 1 year and 8 months after the World Championships held in Budapest in July 2019.

Sang-wook Oh accumulated 269 points in the world rankings, escaping Eli Dashworth (197 points in the United States) far away, and ran the first place in the men’s Saber personal rankings.

In this competition, Oh Sang-wook beat Camille Ibrahimov (Russia) 15-5 in the quarterfinals and Matthias Suzabo (Germany) 15-10 in the semi-finals to advance to the finals.

In the finals against Aaron Sillazi (Hungary), gold medalist at the 2012 London/2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, he stood at the top of the podium, winning 15-14 after a close match.

Kim Gye-hwan (Seoul Transportation Corporation) ranked 15th and Gu Bon-gil ranked 18th (National Sports Promotion Corporation).

Jisoo Yoon won his second personal World Cup medal after the bronze medal at the Orleans in France in October 2015.

He secured the bronze medal by defeating Sarah Balze (France) 15-14 in the quarter-finals, losing to Cecilia Verde (France) 9-15 in the semi-finals and not making it to the final.

Kim Ji-yeon (Seoul City Hall) ranked 10th, and Seo Ji-yeon (Ansan City Hall) ranked 19th.
