Sang-Wook Oh (25 years old, Seongnam City Hall), the world’s No. 1 fencing men’s Saber, won the championship in an international competition in one year.

Sang-wook Oh reached the top in the men’s solo match at the FIE’s Saber World Cup held in Budapest, Hungary.

Oh Sang-wook stood at the top of the podium after winning 15-14 in the final match against Aaron Silage (Hungary), gold medalist at the 2012 London/2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics solo games.

This is the first year of international competition after winning the bronze medal in the Luxembourg World Cup solo exhibition in March last year.

After that event, the international competition was stopped due to the spread of Coronavirus Infectious Disease-19 (Corona 19), and the Tokyo Olympics were postponed.

Sang-wook Oh’s solo international competition was 1 year and 8 months after the World Championships held in Budapest in July 2019.

Sang-wook Oh accumulated 269 points in the world rankings, far away from Eli The Schwartz (197 points in the United States), and ran the first place in the men’s Saber personal rankings.

At the Women’s Saber World Cup held in the same place, Jisoo Yoon (28 years old, Seoul City Hall) won a bronze medal, and our national team picked up medals for both men and women at the first international competition in the year of the Tokyo Olympics.

Ji-soo Yoon won his second personal World Cup medal after the bronze medal at the Orleans in France in October 2015.

Yoon Ji-soo, who secured the bronze medal by defeating Sarah Balje (France) 15-14 in the quarterfinal, lost 15 to 9 to Cecilia Verde (France) in the semi-finals and did not make it to the final.
