Hanwha Solutions announced on the 4th that it had recruited Jang Se-young (47), a former managing director of Samsung Electronics, as vice president. Hanwha Solutions uses its chemical, solar, and hydrogen businesses as its main revenue sources.

New Vice President Jang will take over as head of the newly established NXMD office in the company. It is the role of discovering new businesses in the field of next-generation materials and materials. Hanwha officials explained that the discovery of new growth projects is in line with the management stance of Hanwha Solutions CEO Kim Dong-gwan.

Vice President Jang graduated from Gyeonggi High School and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and then received his master’s and doctorate degrees from the same school. He joined Samsung Electronics in 2002 as a senior researcher at Samsung Electronics, working mainly in the wireless business division, and is evaluated for contributing to making the Galaxy smartphone thinner and lighter. When he was promoted in 2013, he became the only executive in his 30s and received attention. He is also a working mom with children of elementary and junior high school students.

In the industry, Vice President Jang is expected to focus on strengthening Hanwha’s electronic materials and materials business. Hanwha Solutions is focusing on solar and chemical businesses, but it is also in the material business for information technology (IT) equipment. Based on this, it is expected that NXMD business will expand to discover the next-generation electronic materials and parts business. An official from Hanwha said, “Vice President Jang will play a role in discovering new businesses by utilizing his expertise.”

With the recruitment of Vice President Jang, Hanwha Group’s first female executive from science and engineering came out. The other female executive currently in office is Eunhee Kim, 43, the CEO of Hanwha History (Executive Director).
