According to the business report of Hanjin Group’s affiliates on the 19th, Chairman Cho received 1,732 million won and 1.36 billion won respectively from Korean Air and Hanjin Kal last year.
The total amount of 398 billion won received as salary is an increase of 40% from the time of 2019 (total salary 1,893 million won). This is the result of receiving an additional KRW 354 million from Korean Air and KRW 851 million from Hanjin Kal.
Although bonuses were not paid due to poor performance due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) and part of the annual salary was returned, Chairman Cho’s annual salary increased.
In 2019, he received the president’s salary for only nine months, but last year, receiving the president’s salary all year had an impact on the increase in annual salary. Chairman Cho was elected as chairman in April 2019 after his father, the late Hanjin Group chairman Cho Yang-ho, passed away, and his salary rose.
Chairman Cho returned half of his salary to the company last year due to business deterioration caused by Corona 19. Since April of last year, Korean Air has been returning 50% of the salary for vice presidents and above. In addition, unlike Korean Air in 2019, which received a bonus of 64.3 million won, it was not paid as Corona 19 last year.
An official of Hanjin Group said, “Chairman Cho’s salary increase was due to the application of the chairman’s salary at Hanjin Kal and Korean Air.” Explained.
On the other hand, Korean Air’s total employee salary last year fell 19% in the aftermath of Corona 19 to KRW 1.262.7 trillion.
