[지앤이타임즈 송승온 기자] In the process of expanding hydrogen charging stations in bus depots in the future, plans to strengthen the role of existing natural gas charging companies will be prepared.

The Korea Natural Gas Hydrogen Vehicle Association held a regular general meeting in 2021 on the 26th of last month through an online video conference.

The association appointed Park Seong-soo, head of the hydrogen infrastructure of the Korea Gas Corporation’s Hydrogen Business Headquarters, as chairman, and approved major projects this year, including expanding the supply of LNG mixer trucks and supporting the export of hydrogen electric vehicles.

First of all, for the expansion of the supply of LNG concrete trucks, the Ministry of Environment plans to come up with an improvement plan through monitoring the supply of LNG trucks. It will focus on preparing technical and policy conditions so that natural gas engine replacement (Repower) and engine retrofit (retrofit) can be promoted as a low-pollution project for driving vehicles.

In addition, it will strengthen the role of natural gas charging business in the construction of hydrogen charging stations in bus depots.

In addition to the conversion of natural gas buses to hydrogen electric buses, a plan to utilize the CNG charging stations installed in the bus depot will be prepared to strengthen the role of natural gas charging companies with expertise in high-pressure gas in the construction and operation of hydrogen charging stations.

In particular, it plans to prepare a cooperative plan to support the export of natural gas and hydrogen electric vehicles.

As the recent policy support for the supply of natural gas vehicles and charging stations and expansion of the supply market has been promoted in countries such as the United States, Russia, and Egypt, the market status for the overseas advancement of excellent technologies related to domestic natural gas vehicles and problems when entering overseas, etc. It is planned to be used as basic data for policy preparation to support the export of natural gas and hydrogen electric vehicles by the Ministry of Environment.

In addition, deregulation of natural gas vehicles will be promoted through the Jeonbuk Free Regulatory Zone project.

Based on the results of the Jeonbuk Freedom Regulations Project, which began last year, the company plans to improve related systems such as easing the container installation standards for LNG vehicles and preparing the installation standards for LNG mobile charging stations.

“The reduction of the CNG bus market and the reduction of charging stations are the biggest challenges the industry will face in the future,” said Seong-soo Park, a new member. “In the transportation sector, not only the successful expansion of natural gas and hydrogen vehicles and charging infrastructure, but also the existing natural gas bus market “We will make efforts to develop related industries through cooperation and policy development with related organizations such as the government for the annual transition to hydrogen buses.”
