According to the Associated Press on the 3rd (local time), the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office in the United States is looking at the black box installed on the Genesis SUV GV80 vehicle that suffered a rollover accident.
The Sheriff’s Office is known to have issued a search warrant for the GV80 black box in order to determine driving information and driving records at the time of Woods’ rollover accident by traffic accident investigators.
Earlier, on the 23rd of last month, Woods suffered a car rollover accident on a curved downhill road in LA County. Woods suffered a serious injury to his leg in the accident and underwent emergency surgery.
Just before the accident, Woods visited Los Angeles as a organizer of the Genesis Invitational Tournament of the United States Pro Golf (PGA) sponsored by Hyundai Motor Company, and during his stay he borrowed the GV80 from Hyundai Motor Company and used it.
In an initial investigation, the police said they would exclude the criminal prosecution policy, claiming that Woods could not find evidence of drinking alcohol or taking drugs at the time of the accident. However, it seems that it was late to confirm the possibility of speeding and to secure black box data.
Earlier, some media such as Fox News reported that Woods could have been drowsy at the time based on the opinions of vehicle forensics experts.
It is hypothesized that the speed could not be reduced due to drowsy driving in the downhill curve section.
Although it is not obligatory to install a car black box in the United States, experts predicted that more detailed information would be recorded in the black box as the GV80, which was driven by Woods at the time of the accident, was a Hyundai luxury brand, the Genesis model.
The GV80, launched in January of last year, is the first SUV to carry the Genesis brand, and is a model with many convenience and safety specifications applied.
The vehicle has safety features such as 10 airbags, a’driver attention alarm’ that triggers an alarm when the driver falls asleep, a’avoidance steering assist’ that prevents collisions with obstacles, and a front collision warning system.
The Associated Press said, “Hyundai’s luxury brand GV80 will be equipped with a new version of the black box,” said the Associated Press. “This black box seems to have valuable data for the authorities to investigate.”
