Biden Statement in Support of “Recommendation is Scientific Evidence”
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced five strategic guidelines related to the resumption of elementary, middle and high schools on the 12th (local time), the Washington Post reported. It was decided that in-person classes, which had been halted in the aftermath of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), are possible.
CDC said, “There is evidence that many elementary, middle, and high schools that have strictly implemented corona prevention measures can safely resume face-to-face classes,” and said, “School resumption strategy is based on science and evidence.”
“According to the data, having a face-to-face class at school has nothing to do with actual community infection,” he emphasized.
CDC recommended that even in communities with a high corona infection rate, elementary schools can safely resume at least face-to-face classes on the premise of corona prevention measures.
In addition, middle and high schools said they could safely open doors in communities with low infection rates, provided that staff and students undergo corona tests every week.
In the case of the’Red Zone’ area with the highest infection rate, CDC suggested that elementary, middle and high schools establish strict quarantine measures and conduct online and offline classes.
The CDC also suggested five strategies for reopening schools, including universal and correct wearing of masks, 6 feet (approximately 1.8 m) of social distancing, hand washing, cleaning and ventilation system improvements, and contact tracking and isolation measures in case of patient occurrence.
President Joe Biden also made a statement and bolstered the CDC recommendations as “the best scientific evidence on how to safely resume schools.”
He also stressed that while the CDC guidelines were expensive and difficult to implement, the cost of keeping children, families and educators safe was nothing compared to the cost of inactivity.
However, the WP said that the key to reopening schools will be the position of teachers, unions, and parents who believe that resumption is too dangerous.
Becky Pringle, chairman of the National Education Association (NEA), the largest teacher union in the United States, said, “I think the CDC has taken great care in science and prepared guidelines. Some teachers may refuse to return to school, depending on the region. “This will be different.”
