According to the electronics industry on the 5th, the number of standard patents related to LG Electronics is currently estimated to be about 24,000. Most of them are patents related to Long Term Evolution (LTE) and 5th Generation Mobile Communications (5G). Among them, about 3700 5G patents belong to the latest intellectual property rights (IP). LG Electronics ranks third in the number of 5G patents in the world, and it is evaluated that it possesses next-generation mobile technology.

LG Electronics plans to focus on maximizing synergy through internalization for the time being in relation to its strategy to generate revenue in the mobile intangible assets (patent rights) sector. An official from LG Electronics said, “We are considering maximizing the use of intangible assets through internalization as a priority,” and said, “At the same time, we are considering various ways to use standard patents.”
Mobile patent rights are highly likely to be used in the future food sector of LG Electronics. In a conference call in the fourth quarter of last year, LG Electronics said, “Core mobile technology is an important asset not only for terminals, but also for smart home appliances and electronic equipment business.”

The company does not set up a new organization, but the company explained that it will continue to develop original mobile technologies within the existing CTO organization.
