Why does’Moon Jae-in’ keep appearing in corona vaccine articles?

It was pointed out that the Korean media reported that the Corona 19 report was excessively incidental and politicized. It was a meeting where incumbent reporters and medical experts discussed the problems of domestic vaccine coverage and ways to improve it. The’What’s wrong with the Corona 19 Vaccine Report’ hosted by the Free Press Practice Foundation and the New Press Forum was held on the 4th at the Lee Young-Hee Hall in the News Breaker Center in Jung-gu, Seoul.

The characteristics of the Korean media’s reporting on Corona 19 are summarized as △the standard of entertainment △politicization of quarantine △the method of reporting incidents △centered on breaking news △breaking up articles △dependence on announcements. The analysis result of the corona vaccine article released by Kim Joon-il, the CEO of the newstop, the fact-checking media, supports this. From January last year to February this year, Ji Yoon-sung news top fact checker and big data analysis company’Linkbrix’ were in charge of the corona 19 vaccine articles from 75 media companies in Korea.

The aspect of politicizing vaccine coverage was revealed in the proportionality with the keyword’Moon Jae-in’. As the number of’vaccine’ articles increased, the number of articles mentioning the name of the president of’Moon Jae-in’ increased, and as the number of’Moon Jae-in’ articles increased, the number of’vaccines’ articles increased. On the other hand, the proportionality of the keyword level of’Moon Jae-in’ was not confirmed in the article using the name of the director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a keyword. When’Jung Eun-kyung’ and’Disease Management Administration’ appeared at the same time, it showed an upward curve similar to that of the’vaccine’ report, but the correlation was not revealed even if only one of the two keywords was omitted.

The politicians had a great influence on the politicization of vaccines and further’politicalization’. As the remarks of politicians who are not hesitant to unscientific claims were broadcast in real time, vaccines have risen to the center of the political battle. It is in the same context that on the 2nd, Kim Jong-in, chairman of the People’s Strength Emergency Response Committee, was on display without verification of the AstraZeneca vaccine disproportionation. It is criticized that reporters from the political ministry, who have poor health care expertise, should not treat the related remarks as usual at the opposition party.

Another problem is the environment in which partisan reporting, which is characteristic of Koreans who prefer partisan reporting, is made as a means of’money’. In a survey last year by the Korea Press Foundation and the Roy Tunneling Research Institute, among the 40 countries surveyed, Korea was the fourth most preferred’news from the same perspective as me’. The average response rate of 40 countries was 28%, and the response rate of Korean respondents was 44%. The production and consumption of articles based on political faction creates a gap between perceptions in which vaccine reliability differs depending on the party that supports it.

‘Breaking abnormal reactions’ for’click count’ is also a chronic problem. The practice of copying reports from other companies as it is (or “Urakai” in common words) has sometimes led to misinformation. For example, on the last 3rd, the portal “[속보] There is a breaking news that the authorities say, ‘402 deaths after vaccination and so far, 402 in the UK, 113 in Germany.’ Yonhap News reported that the 11 deaths in Germany were incorrectly marked as 113. Yonhap News has since revised the title without any correction, and many articles still remain online as false reports.

It was also pointed out that the fact check article was absurdly insufficient compared to the total amount of articles dealing with the corona vaccine. According to newstop analysis, from January last year to February this year, there were 1,471,254 corona-related news and 93,254 vaccine-related news. However, there are only 70 articles in which the keywords’vaccine’ and’Fact check’ appear at the same time. Representative Kim Joon-il pointed out, “As vaccine reports increased, the number of fact check articles increased, but the’absolute amount’ is insufficient.”

Gangyang-gu TBS science reporter argued that the media reports had adversely affected the domestic quarantine policy. Reporter Kang said, “Because we have contracted various vaccines since last year, we have been bringing in various vaccines, but from January this year, there was a controversy over the AstraZeneca vaccine, which the government had secured and decided to inoculate first.” Because of the relentless and persistent reporting, AstraZeneca has become like a problematic vaccine. As a result, the KCDC and its subsidiary vaccination specialists were frightened,” he said. “It has become a ridiculous situation where we cannot use the vaccine we have in our hands because of the media and the government observing the media.”

The behavior of irresponsibly reporting on site anxiety was also pointed out. Reporter Kang said,’“A side effect? Resignation for being vaccinated”… Rejecting some of the medical staff’ last month’s SBS report, “To write a statement from medical staff feeling anxious about vaccination, there should have been a premise that, for example, more than 80% of the medical staff felt anxious in the Korean Medical Association survey.” . However, when a poll of nursing hospital workers or medical staff who were vaccination targets at the time, more than 90% of them said they would get the vaccine.

Lee Jae-gap, professor of infectious medicine at Hallym University’s Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, advised, “The tone of disaster reports and vaccine articles should be different.” Instead of being buried in speed battles and inducing confusion, it is important to objectively convey the facts that have been scientifically verified. He stressed that the approach of classifying certain medical experts according to factional positions should also be refrained.

In addition, Professor Lee urged reporters to report to experts when they are well-studied. He said, “If you ask,’What is this?’ while reading a book or reading an article because you don’t know it, there is no reason or worth to answer it. It is because I don’t think that such reporters will properly put the expert’s remarks in the article,” he said. “If a reporter who moved to the department at a similar time asks for a lecture that they need to study, I can give it to you.”

Ahn Ki-seok, chairman of the New Press Forum, who hosted the discussion on this day, said, “I hope that the press will no longer play a role as a’virus’ that amplifies people’s anxiety, but a’vaccine’ that can protect the people’s safety and stability. I asked.
