Why did China reveal its new ambassador to China the day before talks with the US?

The new North Korean ambassador to China, Li Ryong-nam, began activities on the 18th. It has been a month since I entered China on the 18th of last month. Even considering the delay due to quarantine for the prevention of novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), it seems that China’s exposing Ambassador Lee one day before the high-level talks between the United States and China is intended to show off North Korea-China blood alliance toward the United States.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the homepage that “Ambassador Lee delivered a copy of his credentials to President Hong Lei.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs followed by an unusual disclosure of the fact that “Ambassador Lee arrived in China on the 18th of last month.” The North Korean Foreign Ministry had already entered China the day before announcing the appointment of Ambassador Lee on the 19th of last month.

New Ambassador Lee is regarded as one of the representative’trade experts’ who has been involved in the foreign economy. He served as a foreign economy prize, and since 2019, he has been in charge of the foreign economy as a candidate for the Political Bureau and vice-premier of the cabinet. A diplomatic source analyzed that “North Korea is a traditional ally and its largest trading partner, sending authentic trade experts to China to overcome the economic crisis and strengthen economic cooperation with China.”

Above all, it is unfortunate when China disclosed Ambassador Lee to the outside. This is because the nervous war between North Korea and the United States has just risen in earnest. When the United States held a meeting of diplomatic and defense ministers (2+2) with Japan on the 16th and South Korea on the 18th, the denuclearization and human rights issues of North Korea were discussed and pressured. No contact or dialogue can take place unless the policy of hostilities against North Korea (North Korea) is withdrawn.”

In particular, the US, China, and the United States are facing their first high-level talks in Alaska on the 18th (local time) after the inauguration of the Biden government. It can be interpreted that China put North Korea as a lever to move the United States. In this regard, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Li Zhen emphasized in a briefing prior to the meeting that “the two sides can exchange opinions on any common interest, including high-level exchanges.” However, he said, “China has no room to negotiate or make concessions on the issues of sovereignty, security, and development interests.”
