The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a message of concern amid the COVID-19 situation in Brazil, the largest country in South America, with a population of 210 million people, falling out of control.

According to foreign media such as Reuters on the 23rd local time, Carissa Etienne, Secretary General of the WHO Americas Headquarters, told a briefing, “Corona 19 is rapidly increasing dangerously in Brazil.” “I said.

According to the world statistics website World Omometer, there were 84,996 new cases in Brazil that day. There were 3,158 deaths. On the same day, about 56,000 new confirmed cases and 852 deaths in the United States, the number one confirmed/deathed. There are 30,000 more confirmed cases than in the United States, and deaths are more than three times higher.

Brazil is the only one in the world with more than 1,000 deaths per day. The number of deaths per day in the top 10 confirmed cases is less than in Brazil.

Increasing cases in Brazil are also affecting neighboring countries. Recently, confirmed cases are increasing in regions bordering Brazil such as Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Currently, Paraguay is overloading the medical system with a surge in confirmed cases. The intensive care unit bed is almost full.

Uruguay has reported over 1,000 cases per day in recent weeks. Reuters said it was “a tremendous scale given that it is a country with a population of 3.5 million.”

“It is a public health emergency,” said Dr. Etienne. “There is an urgent need to expand vaccinations to the most vulnerable.” He added, “The vaccine approved by the World Health Organization is safe and effective, so don’t hesitate to get vaccinated when your turn comes.”

To date, more than 12,13 million people have been infected with Corona 19 in Brazil, and about 299,000 have died. President Zaire Bolsonaro opposes the blockade to protect the economy.
