The US NBC broadcaster reported on the 16th (local time) that the US administration Joe Biden has set an internal policy not to stimulate North Korea until the policy review on North Korea is over.

The previous day, North Korean Labor Party Vice President Kim Yeo-jeong warned the United States of “don’t make things to sleep”, but the White House refrained from responding, saying “I will not comment,” it is interpreted in this context.

According to the NBC, at a meeting of high-ranking officials presided over by the White House National Security Council (NSC) earlier last month, it decided to use soft tones when speaking publicly about North Korea.

The purpose is not to unnecessarily stimulate North Korea while the Biden administration is still reviewing its policy toward North Korea. One official explained, “I’m trying not to make a wave until I have decided how to approach the North Korean issue.”

Officials expressed that in one word, “Don’t shake the boat,” the North Koreans, who had been provocative when the new administration was inaugurated in the United States, were still quiet after entering the Biden administration, using a’tone down’ strategy in one word.

Shortly after this policy was set, let the Ministry of Justice release a press release describing North Korea as “the world’s best bank robber” and “a criminal gang with a flag” while prosecuting three hackers belonging to the North Korean reconnaissance office for financial crimes. White House officials were bristle, NBC said.

White House staff complained to the Justice Department, saying, “The word choice is not right.” It is not the tone down tone that was used when making public comments about North Korea, and it is intended to pose a danger of inducing hostility from North Korea.

Deputy Assistant Secretary for National Security at the Justice Department John Demus announced the prosecution of North Koreans, saying, “North Korean agents who steal wallets using keyboards rather than guns are the world’s leading bank robbers.” The press release at the time was not coordinated with the White House, an anonymous source said.

“President Biden has repeatedly declared that in his administration, the Department of Justice will be in charge of the investigation independently,” NBC said. It also said that within the Biden administration, it exposed the inter-ministerial tensions over whether it would be best to confront the North Korean nuclear threat or whether it should be neglected.

National security staff want to keep the situation where North Korea has not yet made any provocative movements for the Biden administration, but other ministries have different positions.

The Biden administration’s North Korean policy review report is unlikely to be completed before April or early May, NBC said. Last week, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Sung Kim predicted that “it will be completed in a few weeks.”
