In February of this year, the number of monthly Netflix users (MAU) increased by 113% compared to January of last year.

On the 15th, IG Works, a mobile big data platform company, released a report on’Korea OTT app market analysis’ through its data analysis solution’Mobile Index’. The analysis period is from January 1, 2020 to March 1, 2021, and 2 billion data (based on integrated Android and iOS data) of 40 million mobile devices per day were analyzed based on AI algorithms.

While the paid-subscription OTT market is steadily growing,’Netflix’, which has exceeded 10 million monthly users, is leading the domestic market. According to the results of mobile index analysis, the number of monthly users (MAU) of’Netflix’ in February of this year was 1,03283, an increase of 113% from last year’s January (4.7 million 4,024).

Following that, the number of users (MAU) in February was the domestic OTT platform’Wave’ (39,489,950 people),’Taving’ (2.69,509 people),’U+ mobile tv’ (212,6608 people), and’Seezn’ ( 168 million,3471), followed by’Watcha’ (138,5303).

Netflix’s number of daily users (DAU) as of February 1, reached 2.25,1139, an increase of 1.9 times from the same period last year. Netflix was the highest at 72.7% (based on February users) compared to app installations.

The percentage of overlapping Netflix usage of domestic OTT app users is over 40% on average. In particular, the rate of duplicate Netflix usage of’Watcha’ users reached 65.5%. The single use rate was also 43.4%, showing a gap of more than 30%p from the second place’Wave’.

On the other hand, it was found that the number of monthly users of major domestic OTT apps has maintained a constant level since January of last year. The sum of the number of users (MAU) in February excluding duplicate users of the’Wave’,’Taving’,’U+Mobile TV’,’Seezn’, and’Watcher’ apps based on Android OS was 5.5997,726 in January of last year (597). 6,838), a decrease of 11,112.

‘Wave’ showed the highest monthly average usage days per person (8.2 days) and usage time (10.2 hours) among domestic OTT apps based on users in February.

In addition, it was analyzed that the main users of’Coupang Play’ were women in their 30s, accounting for 21.1% of all users as of February.
