Ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, the leader of the Democratic Party’s park visited Busan and repeatedly pledged to deal with the New Airport Special Act on Gadeok Island in February. 4.7 It is already the third time following President Nak-yeon Lee’s two visits to Busan to support the Busan Mayor’s by-election.
On this day, the Democratic Party gave a big boost to the’Gadeokdo New Airport’ by holding a conference on Southeastern economy in the National Assembly and a conference in Busan. On the other hand, the power of the people is still making a different voice, such as the Daegu city council made a statement against the association of Gadeokdo new airport despite the official remarks of the emergency response committee chairman Kim Jong-in.
Democratic Party “Promotion of Gadeok New Airport” in Seoul and Busan… Daegu “opposes the association”
At a similar time when Democratic Party representative Lee Nak-yeon and others held a’Southeast New Economy Engine Policy Conference’ at the National Assembly and shouted slogans while emphasizing the promotion of a new airport on Gadeok Island, the Democratic Party leadership held a concert meeting with the Busan City Party in Busan. At the site, in-hospital representatives Kim Tae-nyeon, policy committee chairman Hong Ik-pyo, senior vice chairman Jeon Jae-soo, hospital speaker Park Seong-joon, etc., as well as Park Jae-ho, chairman of the Busan City Party, and preliminary candidates for the Busan Mayor’s by-election, Kim Young-chun, In-young Park, and Byeon Seong-wan were all dispatched.
Democratic Party leader Kim Tae-nyeon revealed the reason for the “total mobilization” in a public remark, saying, “This is to clearly show the citizens of Busan the firm will to build Gaduk New Airport.” He emphasized that “Gadeok New Airport is the inheritance of the late President Roh Moo-hyun and the consistent promise of the Democratic Party.”
Policy Committee Chairman Hong Ik-pyo also highlighted the resolution of the Gadeok New Airport problem. He said, “We are solving the pending issues such as confirming the exemption from the preliminary feasibility study (preliminary feasibility study) of the Seobusan Medical Center, but the biggest one is Gadeok New Airport.” I will answer my wishes.”
Along with this willingness to promote a new airport, it also poured out sharp criticism toward the people’s strength. In order to capture the public sentiment of Busan, Kim Jong-in visited Busan to officially support the new airport in Gadeokdo Island, but there were mixed responses in Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
The day before, on the 8th, the Daegu City Council, the majority of which belonged to the people’s strength, issued a public statement containing the contents of “Opposition to the Association of the Special Act on the New Airport Special Act of Gadeok Island”. They argued for the abolition of the special law, saying, “We strongly condemn the unfairness and injustice of the Gadeok New Airport Special Law initiated by members of the opposition lawmakers including Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam.”

In this regard, the Democratic Party’s in-house leadership demanded an explanation from Chairman Kim Jong-in. Won Nae Kim criticized that “the power of the people has hindered the dreams and future of Busan citizens by scrambling the Southeastern gateway airport project for 9 years in the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations.” Policy Committee Chairman Hong urged, “It is very regrettable that the opposition party has not participated in the discussion of the special law at all. The TK region should stop interfering with or causing confusion in the Gadeokdo new airport discussions in the Busan region.”
The people of the Busan City Party who attended the conference also pressed the people’s strength. Park Jae-ho, chairman of the Busan City Party, stressed, “We need to deal with special laws through an agreement between the opposition parties so that wasteful debates and old conflicts can be ended, and win-win cooperation and balanced regional development can be achieved.”
Busan mayor candidates “Apologize for the lost 10 years”
Preliminary candidate Kim Young-chun, who ran for the by-election, said, “The power of the people is not hesitating to say anything like Urban Loop or public debate on the Korea-Japan Submarine Tunnel. “Apologize for this first.”
Preliminary candidate Park In-young also raised the theory of responsibility, saying, “Lee Myung-bak is responsible for wasting 15 years at the gateway airport in the Southeast region, and he should hold that responsibility.” Preliminary candidate Byeon Seong-wan ordered a prompt handling of related laws. He said, “If we approach with sincerity and achievements, it will be the first step to turn public sentiment and win the election.”
Won Jae-soo Jeon also threw a word. He pressed against Chairman Kim Jong-in, saying, “I came to Busan and expressed a willingness to cooperate with the airport. But before the appointment, the party should clarify a clear position on these issues.”
Afterwards, the delegation and prospective candidates, who had finished the closed meeting, moved to the Gadeok Island Counter Observation Deck in the afternoon and held a press conference saying, “I will mobilize all of my forces to open the first space of Gaduk New Airport as soon as possible.”
As if this visit is also insufficient, the Democratic Party will start attacking Busan again after the Lunar New Year holiday. On the 18th, the Democratic Research Institute, a think tank of the Democratic Party, announced a’National Tour Policy Expo in Busan’ with the theme of’proposing a vision for Busan’.
