The’Jeong-in-i case’ in which the adoptive parents abused or neglected a 16-month-old child for several months and eventually killed the child. Since last week this fact became known, the whole country has been suffering public resentment. From today (11th) morning, two days before the trial, citizens gathered in front of the court and the prosecution office. Reporter Kim Min-gwan came to the scene.

The place where I am now is in front of the Seoul Southern District Court.
On the 13th, a trial will be held here on the adoptive parents who are accused of abusing Jung In-yi and killing him.
As you can see, in front of the court prosecutor’s office, there is a Geunjo wreath in memory of Jung In-i, who has passed away.

On each wreath, a phrase was engraved with the citizens’ heart to remember Jeong In.
“I’m sorry Jung In,” “I’m sorry that the adults couldn’t protect you” are written.
A pinwheel is also installed in the middle of the wreath.

The charges against the mother-in-law of wool are child abuse and lethality.
But civic groups insist that murder charges should be applied, not child abuse.
As the prosecution recently requested a reassessment on the cause of the death of Jung In-yang, it remains to be seen whether additional charges of murder can be applied.

Reporter Kim, I feel sorry for Jung In-yi and anger toward her adoptive parents through the video. How was the scene you visited yourself?

This morning, it was quite cold enough to freeze the road.
However, citizens gathered in front of the courts and the Prosecutors’ Office with a homemade pinwheel and a Geunjo wreath with a phrase to remember Jeong In-i.
The first thing citizens demand is a strong punishment for adoptive parents.
In order to do this, they argued that the charges that would be applied to wool should be replaced with murder, which is likely to result in higher sentences, rather than child abuse.

The sentence is a little bit, so let’s go over it in detail. First before the trial, their adoptive parents claim that although they beat them, they did not intend to kill them. In the midst of this, acquaintances who watched their adoptive parents testify of the abuse situation?

Yesterday, I told you through our newsroom, and the abuses that acquaintances of my adoptive parents testified directly were terrible. Let’s listen to it.
[정인이 양부모 지인 : 조용히 하라고, 그 가제 수건을 얼굴에 던진 거예요. 깜깜해지니까 애가 울음을 그치거든요. 오죽하면 그 식당 주인분이 (양모에게) ‘아기 울어도 괜찮아요’… 아이들한테 가는 척하면서 이렇게 살짝 봤거든요. 머리를 이렇게 받치고 눕히잖아요, 보통. 어깨를 이렇게 탁 미는 거예요. 애가 ‘쾅’ 하면서 딱 떨어진 거죠. 그러니까 아이가 와아앙 울었어요. 그랬더니 장씨가 ‘야 너는 기저귀 갈아주는데도 우냐?’ 쇄골 깁스를 했는데 이렇게 미니까 여기가 얼마나 아팠겠어요.]
According to acquaintances of the adoptive parents, the atmosphere was strange from the time that Jung In-i was adopted.
He said that it was noisy on the crying face of Jung In-i, and he threw gauze towels used by babies, and when changing diapers, he deliberately touched the injured area and caused pain.
The abuse situation is also revealed in the photos of Jung In-yi during his lifetime.

This is a picture taken the day after Jang Yang made inquiries about the national disaster subsidy for Jung In and sent a photo to the adoption agency Holt Children’s Welfare.
The bruise marks are clearly visible on the forehead, and the shoulders are also blue, unlike the skin color.
If you look at the picture taken about 10 days later, you can see that the mouth is also dark and the bruise marks are newly stretched.

It is said that Jung-in against the adoptive parents reported abuse, a total of three times. But it was said that Jang Yang showed a dignified appearance.

Wool, it is said that they have proclaimed to sue the person who reported suspicion of abuse.

She came out last week through her lawyer. It is said that he inflicted corporal punishment on not only Jung In, but also his real daughter.

According to the results of the prosecution’s investigation, it was found that the death of Jung In was not only caused by damage to organs such as the small intestine, large intestine, and pancreas, but also due to abdominal damage.
Fractures and bleeding have been found all over the body, but a lawyer on the wool side claimed that she was assaulted in the form of corporal punishment, saying she was regretting and reflecting on what she did to her child.
At the same time, it is said that not only Jeong-in, but also his first daughter, his first daughter, had corporal punishment.
Wool’s claim, too, is contrary to the arguments of nearby acquaintances.

According to an attorney on the wool side, Mr. Jang said, “There seem to be times when emotional control was not easy.”
However, an acquaintance of her adoptive parents testified that the mother who abused Jeong In showed a different appearance to her real daughter.
