When I write a notebook that folds like a book… “The touch feels good, but the portability of the pen is bad”

As the non-face-to-face culture spread in the aftermath of Corona 19, as the time at home became longer, one of the products that emerged as’Wannabe’ (something you want to own) is a laptop.

With a laptop, I work from home, watch movies, and play games. As the time spent with laptops increases, interest in new products is growing. This is why the notebook market grew in the second half of last year.

LG Electronics’ new product’Gram 360′ is quite different from previous products. It is a two-in-one product that adds a tablet function. Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard (HP), and Dell have already introduced 2-in-1 notebooks since 2018. Samsung Electronics also launched it last year.

Looking at the Gram 360 (14 inches) released on the 22nd, it looked the same as a regular laptop. However, you can flip the screen back 360 degrees and fold it in half. Folded like a book, it changed to tablet mode. I used it by touching it with my finger. I was able to take notes with a dedicated pen while watching the English lecture video.

It rotated 360 degrees, so I put it up like a tent and watched a movie. As it was placed in a narrow space, space utilization was high.

The screen size is similar to that of a regular laptop. Laptop screen sizes usually start at 13.3-inch, while the Gram360 comes in two models: 14-inch and 16-inch. There is a camera in the center of the top of the screen, and you can use the camera even when folded like a book. Some of the similar 2-in-1 products have a camera at the bottom of the screen.

The driving speed was fast enough to be seen at a glance. It is also a new product, but it is equipped with an Intel 11th generation processor. It is difficult to say that it is a high specification enough to do professional graphic work, but it is a specification that is not insufficient to execute video editing or general graphic tools. It supports i5 or higher CPUs, but i3 models are also available. The resolution is high with full HD 1920×1080.

LG Gram is a series that puts’lightness not exceeding 1kg’ ahead. It is still lighter than similar products from other manufacturers, but the Gram360 is about 300g heavier than the previous Gram series. 14 inches is 1.25 kg (16 inches 1.4 kg), and the thickness is also slightly thickened 1.67 cm. Instead, it has a battery with a capacity that can perform tasks such as video editing for more than 10 hours without plugging in the power. The 14-inch battery is 72Wh (16-inch 80Wh).

What is regrettable is the pressure on the pen that similar products have been pointed out. I recognized it even if I dragged it slightly without pressing it, but the recognition rate fell when I tilted the pen. While writing with the pen, there was no error even if the hand touched the screen, but when the pen was removed, it was recognized even if the finger touched it slightly, causing a typo.

There is also the inconvenience of having to store the pen separately. Others make pens built-in or provide cases for pen storage.

Prices are similar to those of other manufacturers. The 14-inch (based on i5, 8GB, and 256GB) costs 2,900,000 won, and the 16-inch costs 2.24 million won. LG Electronics Korea HE Marketing Manager Kim Sun-hyeong said, “The two-in-one notebook market is also becoming the main trend, so we will actively target the market with a product that combines portability with a large screen.”
