When I searched Choi Soon-young’s house for 3.9 billion arrears… 3.5 billion picture plate evidence came out

Seoul City announced on the 3rd that it had searched the home of former Shin Dong-A Group Chairman Choi Soon-young, who is paying 3.89 billion won in tax arrears, and seized the assets in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, on the 3rd of the’Taxpayer’s Day’.

In the morning of this morning, the Seoul Metropolitan Government invested 2 groups of 10 investigators in the residence of former chairman Choi, and seized 2,687 million won in cash and 20 movable property, including art. The market price of art works was estimated to be between 50 million and 100 million won per piece. In particular, the family of former chairman Choi found out that he received 3.5 billion won from the sale of the painting in April 2020 in the name of his wife, Hyung-ja Lee, and investigated the use of the sale price and found a deposit account.

Mr. Lee said, “3.5 billion won for the sale of the painting is the school expenses for six grandchildren and six granddaughters,” the city said. The search also revealed that Choi’s family leases three luxury cars under the name of the parent foundation and that they have helpers in the house. The city plans to review the cancellation and prosecution against the foundation in accordance with the Act on the Establishment and Operation of Public Interest Corporations.

An official from the 38 Tax Collection Division said, “This home search is a measure to withdraw from high-stakes unconscionable delinquents who are in arrears without paying even 6,170 won of residence tax, which the common people are paying all the time while living in a luxurious life.”
