In Korea, Pfizer vaccination will begin in earnest from the 27th following the AstraZeneca novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine.

According to the’Corona 19 Vaccination Plan’ announced by the health authorities earlier, a total of 43.55 million people will be vaccinated this year.

Quarterly vaccination subjects are outlined. The decision was made by reviewing whether there is a need to prevent serious or death, whether there is a priority to maintain medical, quarantine, and essential functions of society, and whether it is necessary to block transmission to the community.

It is also based on these considerations that the vaccination started from the day before, from the hospitals, residents, and workers of nursing hospitals and facilities under the age of 65 from the previous day. However, the detailed vaccination schedule after February to March is expected to be detailed in consideration of future vaccine supply and demand conditions and vaccination conditions.

◇ In the first and second quarters, residents and workers in nursing hospitals and medical institutions… A total of 13 million

On the 26th, the first day of vaccination, vaccination was started for 5,266 residents and workers under the age of 65 at 213 nursing homes and mental care and rehabilitation facilities nationwide. They receive vaccinations either by visiting a public health center in their jurisdiction or by visiting the facility directly by the health center vaccination personnel.

In 292 nursing hospitals nationwide, where vaccination is administered according to its own plan, vaccination is performed within 5 days from the 26th.

From this day on, workers at the hospitals treating COVID-19 patients receive vaccinations at local and regional vaccination centers and in-house vaccination institutions, starting with the central vaccination center established at the National Medical Center in Jung-gu, Seoul.

Afterwards, health care professionals, such as doctors and nurses working at senior hospitals, general hospitals, and hospitals, and 119 paramedics, epidemiological investigations, and quarantine personnel will receive the AstraZeneca vaccine in March.

In the second quarter (April-June), vaccination is expected to begin for those hospitalized and admitted to the elderly aged 65 years or older in nursing hospitals and nursing facilities, who were initially scheduled to receive the vaccine in the first quarter.

The government decided to confirm the final vaccination by additionally checking clinical data related to the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca vaccination in the elderly by the end of March.

In addition, ▲ users and workers of homeless welfare facilities for the elderly ▲ elderly people 65 years or older ▲ workers in medical institutions and pharmacies that were not included in the vaccination in the first quarter ▲ residents and workers in facilities such as the disabled and homeless are also eligible for vaccination at this time.

If 1.3 million people in the first quarter and 9 million people in the second quarter are added, the total number of vaccinations in the first half of the year is 13 million.

◇ In the third quarter, people with chronic diseases, public sector, and adults… 2nd vaccination/non-vaccinated in the 4th quarter

From the third quarter (July-September), when the second half begins, the number of vaccination targets is greatly expanded as all adults are included.

Adults aged 18 to 64, including chronically ill patients, will receive the vaccination at this time, and essential social personnel such as soldiers, police, fire, and social infrastructure workers, and children and youth education and childcare workers are also eligible for vaccination.

As most of the vaccines introduced in Korea require two vaccinations, vaccinations are made for the second vaccination and non-vaccinated people in the fourth quarter (October to December). If you refused to receive the vaccination at your turn earlier and then receive the vaccination again, it will be possible after November.

In a briefing on the 20th, Jung Kyung-sil, head of the vaccination management team of the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, said, “If the target person refuses to be vaccinated, it will be transferred to a subordinate rank. You can think about it.”

A total of 33.5 million people are eligible for vaccination in the third to fourth quarters.

Regarding the vaccination schedule for the second half of this year, the authorities explained that “the vaccination sequence will be considered, but effective national vaccination methods will be promoted in consideration of the expansion of the amount of vaccine introduced.”
