A gas explosion accident occurred in a house in Changwon, Gyeongnam, and 7 people were injured.

According to the Changwon Fire Department in Gyeongsangnam-do on the 1st, an accident that is believed to be a gas explosion occurred in a single-floor house (44m2) on the first floor where three people, including Mr. A (81, female), in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon-si, lived at around 7:15 pm. According to the Changwon Fire Department, the moment Mr. A turned on the gas stove to prepare dinner, it exploded.

In this accident, A and a 50-year-old man were seriously injured, and an 83-year-old woman was being treated at a hospital. It was investigated that A suffered whole body burns, and a 50-year-old man had burns on both arms.

At the time of the explosion, the entire house of Mr. A collapsed due to an impact, and the debris flew to two neighboring houses, causing secondary damage. Four residents suffered minor injuries such as back pain, and the walls and gates of each of their two houses were damaged, the fire department said.

The fire department arrived at the scene at around 7:21 pm, six minutes after receiving a report from a witness that “the first-floor house collapsed with a’pop’ sound.” Subsequently, the 119 rescue team rescued all 7 residents by 7:31, and then moved the 6 injured to a nearby hospital.

An official from the fire department said, “There has been no additional human damage so far, and the surrounding area is being controlled due to the strong smell of gas around the accident site.”
