Samsung Electronics will hold’Samsung First Look’, which is called TV version Unpack (new product release), on January 6th at 11am (East US time, 1am on January 7th in Korea) online. Five days before the world’s largest IT and home appliance exhibition’CES 2021′ opens.

On the 21st (local time), Samsung Electronics announced that it would send an invitation letter in the name of President Han Jong-hee of the Video Display Division (VD) to global media partners and introduce the latest products, technologies, and visions that will show the future of displays at Samsung First Look 2021.

First Look 2021 will be broadcast live through Samsung Electronics Newsroom, Samsung.com, and YouTube. This is the first time that Samsung First Look, which is set to its ninth next year, will be held online. The industry is paying attention to how this online event will be differentiated from the existing First Look, which you can see and experience with your own eyes.

The new product lineup is also drawing attention. First of all, it is expected that the micro LED (light-emitting diode) model, the next-generation premium display that Samsung Electronics is working on, will be diversified. Samsung Electronics recently unveiled a 110-inch, 4K-resolution micro LED TV that will be sold for 170 million won, and announced its launch in January.

Mini-LED TVs, which are expected to be added to QLED TVs, the current flagship premium TV lineup, are also of interest. Micro LEDs are micro LEDs with a chip size of only 5 to 100 μm (micrometers), and each chip emits light by itself, but mini LEDs are about 10,000 small LEDs in the center of the backlight that serves as a light source for LCD TVs. It is used for the purpose of realizing clearer picture quality by entering 65-inch ultra-high quality standard, trend force estimation). Mini-LED TVs, which have been non-mainstream, are expected to increase due to the participation of Samsung Electronics, the number one TV market.

This year, a lifestyle TV lineup, such as’The Sero’, which is optimal for mobile content that has entered global markets such as North America and Europe, is also expected to be released.

Meanwhile, on this day, Samsung Electronics also revealed its ambition to grow’Samsung TV Plus’ as a content platform. Samsung TV Plus is a free channel-type video service that allows you to enjoy a variety of content such as movies, dramas, entertainment, news, and sports on Samsung Smart TVs with Internet access. Ahead of CES 2021, he received the’CES Innovation Award’ for entries (including service).

Samsung TV Plus, which was first introduced in 2015, is being serviced in 12 countries including Korea, the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, and Brazil. Samsung is planning to double the number of service countries in Mexico, India, Sweden, and the Netherlands next year.

Samsung Electronics is operating 742 channels in cooperation with 300 broadcasters and content companies around the world to secure content. It has formed a strategic partnership with’New ID’, a domestic digital content company, and is also preparing to introduce new channels in the US and Korea. Sang-sook Han, executive director of Samsung Electronics’ video display division, said, “We will continue to expand service countries and channels to reinforce our status as a global content platform.”
