Im Seong-jae (23, CJ Korea Express), who won the first game of the World Golf Championship (WGC) Dell Technologies Match Play Championship (total prize of $10.5 million), revealed that the game had the desired result while having fun.

Lim Sung-jae beat Russell Henry (USA) by one hole on the first day of the tournament held at the Austin Country Club (par 71, 7108 yards) in Austin, Texas on the 25th (Korean time).

A total of 64 people participated in this tournament, and it is played in a match play format. After the group stage is divided into 16 groups of 4 players, only the first place in each group is ranked in the round of 16, and the final winner is determined by a tournament method.

Lim Seong-jae, a top ranker in Group 16, was ahead of Henry by only three holes in the first half. In the second half of the round, he was chased by one hole, but without embarrassment, he kept the lead and won the first game.

After the game, Im Seong-jae said, “I played the match play game for the first time on the American Professional Golf (PGA) tour. I was 3 holes ahead in the beginning and I was nervous because of the opponent’s chase in the second half, but it was fun.” I will advance to the river,” he said.

Lim Seong-jae has a good memory for match play. He made a strong impression when he participated in the Presidents Cup two years ago as a member of the international team and recorded 3 wins, 1 draws and 1 loss.

Im Seong-jae said, “I won 3 wins in match play during the Presidents Cup. Match play is different from a normal game because one hole and one hole are so important,” he said. “I don’t feel impatient mentally, but because it’s a game where I have to beat my opponent, I think I’m enjoying the game more myself, and (match play) results seem to come out well,” he said.

Finally, Im Seong-jae expressed satisfaction with the Austin Country Club where this tournament is held, saying, “It’s an interesting course for match-play,” and “It’s a mix of short holes and holes that need to be safely hit, so you can have fun.”
