Seoul’s transportation network is changing. The’Seobu Line Urban Railroad’ project, a new transportation axis connecting the northwest and southwest of Seoul, will be visualized, and the city railroad of the Sillim Line, which connects Yeouido and Seoul National University, is scheduled to begin trial operation first.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 27th that “from the 29th to April 27th of next year, a third party proposal will be announced for the’West Line Urban Railway’ project.”

The Western Line is a 16.2km long line connecting Yeouido and Seoul National University Station from Saejeol Station in Eunpyeong-gu, Line 6. A total of 1.52 trillion won will be invested in the construction of 16 stations and one vehicle base, and the construction period is 72 months.

When the West Line urban railway is completed, a new transportation network will be established that connects the northwestern and southwestern parts of Seoul. It is also connected to the existing urban railroads such as Line 1, Line 2, and Line 9. After receiving the project proposal, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to select a preferred negotiator during the first half of next year.

Kim Jin-pal, head of the Urban Railroad Division, Seoul City Infrastructure Headquarters, said, “The new transport axis linking the northwest and southwest of Seoul will be completed, and access to public transport will be greatly improved, which will greatly contribute to the development of the region.”

The’Silrim Line Urban Railroad’, which launched its first shovel in 2017, will be commissioned in the first half of next year. With the goal of opening in 2022, the introduction of electric vehicles began. The city railroad of the Sillim Line is a 7.8km section from Yeouido in Yeongdeungpo-gu to Seoul National University, and the entire section is connected by an underground tunnel. Dorimcheon and Saetgang rivers, Daebang underground passageways, and Danggok intersections have penetrated underground, making it the nation’s largest’difficulty construction’. The Seoul Metropolitan Government said, “On the last 16th, all tunnels were penetrated, and an on-site inspection team was formed with experts in the field to set the optimal construction direction.”

The trains used in this section are rubber wheeled trains that use rubber wheels and are characterized by low vibration and low noise. The city of Seoul is planning to first bring in a train on the 21st and start trial operation from January to August next year. The city railroad of the Sillim Line starts at Saetgang Station (Line 9) and extends to Seoul National University via Daebang Station (Line 1), Boramae Station (Line 7), and Sillim Station (Line 2).

Director Kim said, “We will thoroughly verify the facility performance and safety.” “We will provide innovative transportation infrastructure such as promoting balanced regional development by relieving traffic congestion in the southwest region and establishing a network with existing urban railways.”
