While online game users are complaining about the game companies’ refusal to disclose the probability of picking probable items, some political figures are causing controversy by showing inappropriate behavior that fuels users’ anger. <관련기사 : [단독] 넥슨, 조작의혹 아이템 쏙 빼고 '확률공개 인증' 받았다>

On the 25th, Rep. Kim Seung-soo of the People’s Power posted an opinion of’opposing regulations on probabilistic items’ through an official blog. In the above article, Rep. Kim argued, “Overseas countries are not disclosing the probability of drawing a probability item,” he argued, “it could lead to reverse discrimination against domestic companies.”

When one netizen asked for an accurate explanation of the content that’regulation of probability-type items can be reverse discrimination’, Congressman Kim replied, “There is no case in the international community that discloses probability information except for China.” . He added, “I know that Japan is at the level of self-disclosure, and there is no surveillance organization, and most countries such as the United States and Europe do not disclose probability information.”

Since 2017, China has been required to disclose’probability information’ and’expected number of acquisitions’ of probability items. Japan has limited the upper limit of the expected amount of items that can be acquired to less than 50,000 yen (approximately 520,000 won).

The UK went one step further and classified probability-type items as’gambling’ at the government level. Accordingly, the Royal Society of Public Health said, “We must prohibit the sale of probability items to minors,” and took measures to delete related items against’games under the age of 18′. In addition, most European countries, such as the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, are tightening regulations by considering probability-type items as gambling.

Unlike Congressman Kim’s argument, it can be seen that the international community’s regulation on probability-type items is being reinforced.

Domestic game companies are highly likely to criticize the fact that they do not disclose the probability of drawing (acquisition) of probability-type items, or are taking enormous gains by using a shortcut that partially modified the operation method such as’capsule-type items’. Users who spend as much as hundreds of millions of dollars to get their preferred probability-type item or option are not boring.

Representatives of Congressman Kim said, “The promotion of high-priced items and the probability of fluctuations must be corrected,” he said. “In preparation for the post corona, the content business is playing an important role, such as creating youth jobs.” Another official added, “(The post) was meant to be clear about what to regulate,” and added, “Because I can’t help thinking about the future, it seems appropriate to discuss the current issue in a neutral position.”

The reason why the issue of whether to disclose the probability of drawing a probability-type or capsule-type item is due to fairness. Online game users are spending enormous costs to secure probabilistic items.

There are many people who enjoy the game with a relatively small amount of money in the tens of thousands of won, but not a few people spend millions of won to hundreds of millions of won on purchasing items or options. A more serious problem is that users cannot know the probability of obtaining these items or options. This is why criticism is pouring out on certain game companies that have significantly increased the purchase price of probabilistic items and diversified the items.

In response to public opinion that criticizes that “a probability-type item with an unknown probability of drawing is no different from gambling,” game companies came up with a card called industry self-regulation. GSOK was launched under the leadership of game companies in this process.

The’self-regulatory certification mark’ is a mark given to game companies that voluntarily disclose the probability of drawing probability-type items. Even after receiving the above mark, some game companies are virtually refusing to disclose the probability of drawing, raising noise.
