[아이뉴스24 서민지 기자] Samsung Electronics is leading the popularization of high-performance solid state drives (SSDs) with’NVMe SSD 980′.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 10th that it will release the’NVMe SSD 980′ with improved performance and lower price.

This product is a high-performance NVMe interface-based consumer SSD that can achieve up to 6 times the continuous read speed compared to the existing SATA SSD. It provides the best performance to a variety of consumer groups, including not only general notebook PC users, but also content creators and home game users that are increasing recently.

NVMe SSD 980 equipped with the latest 6th generation V-NAND provides continuous read/write speeds of up to 3500MB/s and 3000MB/s, and random read/write performance of 500K IOPS and 480K IOPS.

In particular, this product applies host memory buffer (HMB) technology that directly connects to the DRAM installed in the PC without the DRAM installed inside the SSD by optimizing the controller and firmware technology. Through this, the DRAM installed inside the SSD was removed to reduce the cost and maintain the performance.

In addition, it provides more stable performance by improving the Intelligent Turbo Light function that optimizes the performance according to the user’s workload.

‘NVMe SSD 980’ is applied with the same thermal control technology as high-end products such as overheat protection, nickel-coated controller, and heat dissipation sheet on the back of the product, allowing users to experience the best performance for a long time.

Compared to the previous NVMe SSD lineup, ‘970 EVO’, this product has improved power efficiency by up to 56% and minimized carbon emissions during the manufacturing process.

Samsung Electronics also added a’Maximum Power Mode’ optimized for high-capacity work and high-performance games to Samsung Magician 6.3, an SSD-only software.

‘NVMe SSD 980’ will be released in more than 40 countries around the world, including Korea, the United States, Germany, and China, in three models totaling 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB. They are priced at $49.99, $69.99, and $129.99, respectively.

“Samsung Electronics has been leading the SSD technology leadership based on its advanced technology as the number one company in the SSD industry for many years,” said Gyu-young Lee, executive director of the brand product marketing team at Samsung Electronics’ memory division. It will increase accessibility and lead the popularization of NVMe SSDs.”
