The Korean Volleyball Association (hereinafter referred to as the Association) has announced a decisive response to the issue of controversial involvement in school violence by professional players.

The association released a press release on the 15th and said, “As a national representative operating organization, we are fully aware of our responsibility for the fact that this school violence has caused a lot of controversy. I will exclude it from all international competitions according to the criteria.”

The association decided that it would be difficult to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents without taking strong measures against the current incidents of school violence.

He emphasized that through thorough verification in the future, he will respect and observe the spirit of the Olympics and select only leaders and players who can participate in the national team with the spirit of fair play.

According to the association’s measures, athletes who were found to have committed school violence could not wear the Taegeuk mark.

The players to which this criterion is applied right now are Jae-young Lee and Twin sisters Lee Da-young of Heungkuk Life’s women’s division, and Myung-geun Song and Gyeong-seop Shim of OK Financial Group in the male division.

Lee Jae-young and Lee Da-young shocked fans because they were known to have committed verbal and physical assaults and extortion of money and goods several times against colleagues in the same volleyball club when they were in middle school.

Prior to the announcement of the association this morning, he was deprived of the Taegeuk mark as he was punished for an indefinite suspension of qualifications from the club of Heungkuk Life Insurance. Although he played a major role in the national team for a long time, including winning the 2014 Incheon Asian Games gold medal, the association resolutely withdrew.

Song Myung-geun and Shim Gyeong-seop expressed their intention to give up their remaining games this season and self-sufficiency, although there was no disciplinary action for the club itself. [email protected]
