[세종=이데일리 원다연 기자] The government will pay 500 billion won worth of consumption coupons to create demand for the service industry.

Deputy Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki and Minister of Strategy and Finance presided over a major emergency economic plenary session on the 3rd and said, “A ‘4+4’ targeting about 23 million people, focusing on culture, lodging, eating out, and sports services, to create demand for the service industry on the premise of stabilizing quarantine. We are preparing to apply for vouchers and coupons.”

Deputy Prime Minister Hong suggested such a consumption coupon payment plan, saying, “In addition to the 4th customized damage support measure, the government is preparing a full-fledged domestic demand improvement plan, including support for so-called’retaliation consumption,’ if Corona sufficiently enters the control of quarantine.”

As the Corona 19 situation continues, the plan is to decide whether to use online or face-to-face consumption according to the quarantine situation as to how to use consumption coupons.

2nd Vice Minister Kim Yong-beom emphasized, “It is a basic principle that the vouchers and consumption coupons are operated after close consultation with the quarantine authorities according to the quarantine situation.”

Deputy Minister Kim said, “In the past year, when the distance level was raised, we implemented offline use after consultation with the quarantine authorities, and stopped using it.” “As the quarantine situation is still severe, we thoroughly follow the quarantine guidelines and promote related policies. It is essential to go through consultations with the authorities.”

The government added, however, that it is continuing to expand the use of non-face-to-face online. Vice Minister Kim Yong-beom said, “Agricultural and marine products coupons are currently being used in a non-face-to-face manner, and meal coupons were implemented last year by devising a non-face-to-face use plan using a delivery app, and this year’s budget will be available soon after the system is supplemented.” He added, “We are promoting the use of non-face-to-face coupons for other sports.”
