In the first four days of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccination, more than 20,000 people have been vaccinated, and the long journey for’daily recovery’ is proceeding without any major disruption.
Section 3·1 (2.27~3.1) The number of inoculations did not increase significantly during the three-day holiday, but it is expected that each medical institution will speed up the vaccination from this week.
According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the 3rd, as of 0 o’clock the previous day, 23,86 people across the country completed the first vaccination of the vaccine.
Among them, 22,191 people received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 895 people received the Pfizer vaccine.
The vaccination rate is 6.3% compared to the priority vaccination subjects (36489 people), and the vaccination rate is 0.04% compared to the domestic population (based on 52 million people).
A total of 156 people reported that there was an adverse reaction after vaccination, and all of them were mild cases such as headache, fever, and nausea, and there was no’anaphylaxis’ (severe whole body allergic reaction).
Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun said in a remark at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting the day before, “Considering the three-day holiday, the on-site vaccination participation rate was high. “We look forward to this,” he said. “There have been 156 reports of adverse reactions so far, but all of them are quickly recovering, and there is no problem with vaccine safety,” he said.
Currently, two types of vaccines are provided, AstraZeneca (AZ) and Pfizer.
The AstraZeneca vaccine is being administered to workers under the age of 65, hospitalized and inpatients in nursing hospitals and nursing facilities, and the Pfizer vaccine is administered to medical staff to treat COVID-19 patients.
The government originally planned to inoculate AstraZeneca vaccine that is convenient for distribution because it can be stored in a refrigerator at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. However, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety advised the elderly to use this vaccine carefully due to insufficient clinical data. Once, the vaccination has been withheld until additional clinical data are available.
As of January of this year, of the 648,000,855 workers and inpatients in nursing hospitals and nursing facilities nationwide, 376,724 (58.1%) were over 65 years old, and only 41.9% of the originally planned vaccination subjects were given priority. They are inoculating.
However, the possibility of getting AstraZeneca vaccine from the second quarter is increasing even for those over 65 years old.
The Agency for Disease Control and Prevention has received additional clinical trial data from AstraZeneca from AstraZeneca by the end of this month, and is in a position to start vaccinations for the elderly as early as next month.
In this situation, a recent study in the UK that the AstraZeneca vaccine is effective for the elderly has emerged.
As a result of analyzing the vaccination data collected by the English Public Health Administration (PHE) from January this year, 80% of the elderly aged 80 and over who received a single dose of AstraZeneca vaccine were hospitalized after 3-4 weeks, and those aged 70 or older were vaccinated. It was found that the infection prevention effect reached 60-73% after 4 weeks.
In particular, in the same study, the prevention effect of Corona 19 over the age of 70 who received a single dose of Pfizer vaccine was 57-61%. For the elderly, the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine was somewhat higher.
The results of this study have not yet been evaluated by peers, but France has already acknowledged the effectiveness of this vaccine and has expanded the vaccination age to 74 years, and Germany also has a policy of “not recommending AstraZeneca vaccination to the elderly”. It is known to reconsider.
The authorities are collecting data related to the AstraZeneca vaccine while keeping an eye on the trends of foreign countries.
At a briefing the previous day, Kyung-sil Chung, head of the vaccination management team of the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Group, said, “We are constantly collecting evidence. It will be said.

As positive evaluations of the vaccination effect of the AstraZeneca vaccine from abroad have been transmitted, some observers say that the government is making a conclusion on whether or not to be vaccinated over the age of 65 even during this month.
“We are not reviewing the data for a specific time limit,” Jung said. “I think we can always judge if the data such as thesis and clinical trial results are accumulated enough.”
In addition to the AstraZeneca vaccine, the government is also considering various alternatives such as Pfizer and NovaVax.
The NovaVax vaccine, which is scheduled to be available in May, can be distributed refrigerated like the AstraZeneca vaccine, and the Pfizer vaccine is a frozen vaccine, but it can be inoculated within 5 days after thawing.
In an answer to the recent plenary meeting of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee, Jung Eun-kyung, director of the disease administration, said, “Once, for the elderly who have difficulty in moving in nursing hospitals and nursing facilities, (medical staff) are reviewing a plan to go to the field with a vaccine.” “We also have a plan such as defrosting and vaccination on the same day (visit),” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention will also start vaccinating AstraZeneca vaccines for the first responders of Corona 19, such as 119 paramedics, quarantine officers, and epidemiological investigators as early as the 7th.
