In the United States, which is terrorized by a series of “gun crimes,” this time an active duty soldier shot another soldier and seriously injured it. The crime has already occurred in military-related facilities, adding to the shock. The criminal was also shot and killed while on the run.

The incident occurred on the 6th (local time) around 8:30 am at a naval facility in Riverside Park, Maryland. Girma Uldisenbet, 28, a Navy medical sergeant, Pantahun, fired at two naval soldiers, inflicted severe injuries, and fled. After the crime, he drove for 10 minutes to the nearby Fort Detrick Army Base, about 6.4 km away, refused to comply with the inspection instructions of the first soldier, and entered the premises. The victims were taken to the hospital, but they were passed on in critical condition. Both the shooters and victims belong to Fort Detric, and their relationship or exact motives are not yet known.

Brigadier General Michael Toly explained that before the criminal was checked, he passed through the main entrance of the base at high speed, and after driving about 800m to the parking lot inside the base, pulled out a weapon and the military police responded immediately. Brigadier General Toly also said, “I don’t know his mental state at the time, but I will find out everything.” Maryland Governor Larry Hogan spokesman Mike Ritchie also said the governor had been reported on the situation and state police were supporting the investigation. According to the Associated Press, Fort Detric is an army facility focused on scientific research and development, and is home to US military and civilian biology laboratories.

Recently, military base shooting incidents have been reported in the United States. In May of last year, an armed gunman broke into a naval aircraft base in Corpus Christi, Texas, and shot a naval guard to death. Earlier in December 2019, Saudi Army Lieutenant Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, who was completing a training program at Pensacola Naval Air Base, Florida, posted an anti-US DIP statement on Twitter and fired at least four people to death. People were injured.
