US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln visited Korea on the 17th and remarked that “North Korea is committing widespread abuse against its own people.” Secretary Blincoln also condemned that “China is eroding the Hong Kong economy and cutting off Taiwan’s democracy.”

Minister Blincoln said in a remark at a meeting between Foreign Minister Eui-yong Eui-yong and ROK-US foreign ministers held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Building in Doryeum-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 17th, “We must defend basic rights and freedoms and resist those who oppress them.” Prior to all remarks on the day, he mentioned the shooting incident in Atlanta, USA, and said, “I want to express my deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends, and the Korean community that was shocked.”

He then revealed the Biden administration’s policy toward North Korea externally. He cited North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missiles as a challenge, stressing that “we will continue to work together with other allies and partners, including South Korea and Japan, for the denuclearization of North Korea.” ROK-US relations have been around for decades on the basis of friendship and mutual trust, and they also expressed their will to reaffirm it here.

He expressed a strong message about China. “China systematically undermines Hong Kong’s economy through coercion and belligerent actions, weakens Taiwan’s democracy, violates Tibet’s human rights and claims territorial sovereignty in the South China Sea,” he said. “All this violates human rights laws.” He criticized it intensely. “We believe in democracy,” he added. “We saw that democratic countries are more stable, safer, more open and dedicated to human rights.”

On the morning of the 18th, Secretary of State Blincoln is expected to announce a joint declaration after holding the’Korea-US Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministers (2+2) Meeting’ at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office on the morning of the 18th. Later, after meeting with President Moon Jae-in, he returned to Alaska, USA to hold talks with high-ranking Chinese officials.
