The American probe, which left Earth in July last year, arrived safely on Mars.

Perseverance will be tasked with finding traces of ancient life that may have existed on Mars and collecting soil samples to bring to Earth.

NASA, anxiously awaiting results.

About 11 minutes later, when the news of the landing on Mars comes, cheers erupt.

<현장음> “Touch-down confirmation, landing on Mars. Ready to find traces of past life.”

NASA’s fifth Mars rover, Perseverance, settled in craters as an example of what is supposed to be an ancient Mars delta.

This is the achievement after leaving Earth last July and flying 471 million km.

NASA calls this landing 7 Minutes of Terror and ranks it the most difficult landing attempted on Mars.

This is because, in the process of entering the atmosphere of Mars by itself, without the control of the Earth’s control station, it had to withstand the high temperatures equivalent to the sun’s surface and a force of 10 times Earth’s gravity.

“I can no longer be proud of the results that the team has achieved in difficult situations.”

The three-meter-long, six-wheeled Perservance stays for years and uses state-of-the-art equipment such as cameras, microphones and lasers to explore Mars’ past life traces.

It is also on a mission to collect soil and rock samples scheduled to be sent to Earth in 2031.

Equipment that could be the basis for manned exploration on Mars is also tested.

In particular, the power flight and oxygen extraction experiments of the 1.8kg small helicopter Ingenuity are expected to lay the foundation for future aviation exploration in the future.

<토마스 쥐르뷔헨 / NASA 부국장> “Now the amazing science begins. We look forward to the data coming from Mars.”

The Persistence Landing on Mars is a victory for the US, exhausted by the Corona 19 crisis and economic turmoil, Reuters said.
