Anthony Pouch, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), said that among people infected with the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in South Africa, there have been cases of reinfection with mutant Corona 19.

On the 30th (local time), Pouch said in an interview with NBC News, “I was told that a new case of a mutant virus was found among people infected a few months ago in a conversation with scientists and public health experts in South Africa.”

“It means that the immune response induced by the first infection was not enough to prevent the second infection,” he said.

However, Mr. Pouch emphasized that vaccination seems to be better at preventing reinfection. “Vaccines seem to be better at inducing that kind of protection,” he added. “Because they have 50-88% efficacy in preventing serious disease.”

Meanwhile, in the United States, 434 cases of mutant virus originating from the UK have been confirmed in a total of 30 states, and mutant infections from South Africa and mutant infections from Brazil are one after another.
