‘Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods was known to have suffered severe injuries to both legs in a car rollover accident on the 23rd (local time), and authorities assumed that he was speeding at the time of the accident.
The Los Angeles County, California (LA) county police and fire departments said this at a briefing on the 23rd (local time), the Associated Press reported.
County fire department chief Daryl Osby said that both of Woods’ legs were severely injured.
Deputy Director Carlos Gonzalez County Sheriff’s Office said Woods was unable to stand on his own at the time of the accident, but when asked for his name, Woods was conscious enough to say “Tiger.”
Police said there was no evidence that Woods drove a car with a driving disorder, such as alcohol or drugs, regarding the cause of the accident.
County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Woods found no signs of being affected by drugs or smelling alcohol.
However, police presumed that Woods was speeding at the time of the accident.
Sheriff Villanueva said, “It seems to be running relatively faster than normal,” and said there was no sign of sudden braking.
The road in which the accident occurred was a steep downhill section of a round-trip four-lane road, and this road was transmitted to a place with high accident frequency.
The car Woods drove was Hyundai Motor Company’s 2021 sports utility vehicle (SUV)’Genesis GV80′, which was overturned after hitting the central division at the time of the accident.
Sheriff Villanueva said the car’s airbags were activated and the car body inside the car was barely damaged. Woods was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
“The front part and bumper of the vehicle were completely destroyed, but the interior of the vehicle was almost intact, which served as a cushion for Woods to survive,” he said. “If not, it would have been a fatal accident.”
