The United States announced that it will not directly sanction Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, who is believed to have ordered the so-called “Kashukji murder case”.
According to CNBC on the 28th (local time), White House spokesman Jen Saki told CNN’s’State of the Union’ program, “Historically, both the Democratic and Republican administrations have diplomatic relations with us, and even where there is no such relation, No sanctions were imposed on the leaders of foreign governments,” he said.
“We see there are more effective ways to ensure that this will not happen again, and there is also room for cooperation with Saudi Arabia in areas where there is mutual agreement.”
“This is what diplomacy is,” said Saki. “We have made it clear that we have not made any secrets and will hold them accountable on the international stage. The administration has taken action through the Treasury and State Departments.”
The U.S. government released the Kashqzi Report, which was investigated by the U.S. Intelligence Agency (DNI) on the 26th.Accordingly, Crown Prince Bin Salman saw that Kashqzi, a dissident journalist who criticized the royal family, was a threat to the royal family, and violence to silence him Operation) was reported to have been widely supported.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden had criticized the kingdom’s leadership as “there is little value of social restraint” when he said he would hold the Saudi leaders responsible for Kashukji’s death when he was running for the presidential election.
On the 26th, the Ministry of Finance imposed sanctions on the details of the Crown Prince’s security and also sanctioned former deputy chief of intelligence Ahmad Assiri, a close friend of the Crown Prince, who was alleged to be the lead of the case.
The State Department has imposed visa restrictions on 76 Saudi individuals who are allegedly involved in intimidating foreign dissidents, including this case.
President Biden is focusing on realigning relations with Saudi Arabia, by making a phone call to King Salman bin Abdulaziz, his father and Saudi Arabian leader, overtaking Prince Bin Salman, who ruled as the de facto ruler.
